Hi, I’m Abbi. I grew up in South Africa and moved to London in 2004 because I didn’t have anything better to do. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
I live in Wandsworth with my long-suffering British husband, Paul and Spider-Pig and Angry Bird, our surrogate pets… don’t ask.
I divide up my life between my day job as an email ninja (not my actual title), obsessing about all things rock ‘n roll, attempting to dress like I’m from the 50’s, writing bad prose and poetry and experimenting in the kitchen.
This blog is a diary of my adventures, an outlet for my rants, a source of gig reviews and a window to my obsessions.
Welcome to the dark side… we have cookies.

Hi
I really liked your youtube clip of the inflatable wrestling ring. I’ve got the same one, only in black. Quite amazing how much abuse it can handle seeing your clip. A pity I can’t view the facebook photos.
Greetings Arno
I wish you well in your aspirations as a writer, but can I suggest that you turn up at the start of any performance you see fit to tear apart. You obviously missed the start of Brigitte Aphrodite’s show and therefore missed the point completely. We saw her in Leeds and she charmed and left an adoring audience absolutely loving her. Kate Nash is giving her a chance and your careless snapshot of what you think you heard as you entered the gig is the only bad review anywhere but is reported all over google. This does you no credit at all!
Dave… why have you commented on my About Me page rather than the actual review… doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, this is my personal blog, where I report my personal opinions on things. I went to a gig… I didn’t like one of the sets. Brigitte Aphrodite is up there performing and therefore subject to being judged by the audience. Most of the audience at the gig did like her. I didn’t but that’s MY personal taste on MY personal blog. You don’t know me from a bar of soap but you’re commenting negatively on my blog. Is that doing you any credit? Grow up, love.
Your style icon is Noel Fielding. So I automatically love you <3 hahahah. He's my idol. I love him sooo much
Nice blog, I work for South West Trains so was pushed to the blog by your little article about the suicides but I have enjoyed reading the other stuff on here. will now follow on twitter. cheers
Hello
As a fellow-top 10 nominee in last year’s “Best Overseas SA Blog” category, I thought you might be interested to know that Chris Rawlinson & the organisers of the 2011 SA Blog Awards have in their endless wisdom changed the rules this year to state that “only bloggers resident in SA may enter” the 2011 awards, which opened yesterday. I have written to Chris to emphasise my disappointment at this totally retrograde and discriminatory step – particularly in a country like South Africa where there is a huge and enthusiastic blogging diaspora; and particularly in light of the strong support that I and other expat SA bloggers such as yourselves have given to the SA Blog Awards over the years. His response was to say that I should just provide a friend’s SA cell phone number to “prove” that I am resident in SA – which is clearly a ridiculous solution and opens us up to allegations of rulebending/breaking.
If you are as disappointed as I am with this sad state of affairs and feeling similarly excluded and discriminated against, please can you make some noise – mail the organisers on admin@sablogawards.com; or tweet @chrisrawlinson and @sablogawards voicing your opinion.
Thanks and best wishes
I don[t understand why ex-pat blogs would be excluded from the competition. We are a very real and very powerful voice but the encouragement to bypass the rules is even more infuriating. I will certainly be tweeting Chris!
I love cookies!!! Buenos Aires has some of the best cookies on earth, by the way.
